FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is an electric octopus?

An electrical octopus is the term used to refer to a prefabricated wiring system used in new construction or renovation.

The junction box represents the body and the sheaths the tentacles of the octopus.

The electrical octopus simplifies the installation of the electrical system, reduces the risk of wiring errors and provides a standardized, factory-prefabricated installation.

2. Universal octopus (basic or home automation ready): what are the differences?

We offer 2 types of octopus cables depending on your needs and budget:

The basic universal octopus for a simple electrical installation, without the possibility of upgrading to home automation.

The universal home automation octopus ready for a premium installation ready to evolve into home automation after adding a control board and relay modules.

3. Turnkey or self-contained installation, what are the differences?

With the turnkey installation you entrust your project to the C'PREYCONNECT team and you are supported by a partner electrician from our network.

With self-installation you are free to plan, purchase and install your electrical system while benefiting from the tools and assistance of our teams.

4. What are the different octopus models?

We offer 4 octopus models adapted to each area of the house:

The Kitchen Zone octopus, for equipping the kitchen.
The Zone Bain octopus, for equipping bathrooms and shower rooms.
The Other Zone octopus, to equip all other zones: bedrooms, living room, lounge, garage...
The Comfort Zone octopus, for roller shutters and/or electric heaters with pilot wire.

5. Where should the different boxes be placed?

The boxes must be accessible at all times. They must also be positioned within the heated space (installation in the attic above the insulation is prohibited).

We therefore recommend positioning the boxes upside down in the ceiling of built-in cupboards - in the ceilings, linings or 10 cm partitions of non-main rooms (Pantry / laundry room / WC)

6. How many cables can a box hold?

16 maximum for the Octopus Bath Zone, Kitchen Zone, Other Zone and Comfort Zone

7. When I draw, what do the colors of the octopus's sheaths correspond to?

Each color corresponds to a sheath length:

  • Blue = 8.50m
  • Green = 9.50m
  • Violet = 10m50
  • Orange = 11m50
  • Brown = 16.50m
8. What can I add to each box?

Each box has 4 free cable slots, closed by a white cap.
Therefore, one or more sheaths can be added per box (max 4).

9. What can I add to the Other Zone box?

The Universal Octopus Other Zone is available in over 170 versions (based on a maximum of 4 added conduits). (In connected mode, 4 circuits remain available in this box)

  • 2 Outlets
  • 2 Lamps
  • 2 Inters or back-and-forth
  • 1 Dedicated circuit (Washing machine or Dryer or Convector heater or Water heater or Air conditioner or Roller shutter …)
  • 1 Inter-scenario (connected mode)
10. What can I add to the Zone Bain box?

13. How can we be sure that the planned conduits will not be too short?

The drawing software automatically calculates the length of the various electrical points as you move objects. It warns you if a conduit is too short by highlighting the conduit with a red dotted line.

14. How can I be sure that the plan I've drawn up meets the standards and is easily achievable?

At the end of the drawing, you must validate your project.
Your project will be sent to our control system which will modify it if necessary.
Your confirmation implies that you agree to receive three price quotes from us or one of our partners. (Your contact information will not be shared with our partners under any circumstances without your explicit consent.)

15. How many circuits per device type? (Connected mode)

All types of devices use at least one circuit:

  • Lamp
  • Socket
  • Hood
  • Specialized outlet
  • VMC
  • Contact-sec
  • Portal
  • Garage
  • Power outlet controlled

Only the Roller Shutter and Pilot Wire Heating (towel dryer) types use 2 circuits.

16. What does the x mean behind the LA2x lamp or the PR6x socket in the Other Zone universal octopus?

The x indicates that this sheath is equipped with an R2V cable, for outdoor lamps or sockets.

17. In the universal Comfort Zone octopus system, why is the length of the VR4 duct 16.50m long?

This 16m50 duct allows you to create, if needed, a VR5 by cutting the VR4 duct, provided of course that the sum of the two (VR4 and VR5) remains less than 16m50.

18. What do we do if we need to go back and forth?

In all universal octopus wiring harnesses with sheaths for single switches, you have the option to convert them into two-way switches.
Indeed, all that is needed is to add a conduit to create the 2nd two-way switch.
We provide the wiring diagram upon request.

19. What is the purpose of the ground wire in the Zone Bain universal octopus system?

The NFC 15-100 standard requires an earth wire in the bathroom to connect showers or bathtubs that have metal parts.
Even if you have non-conductive equipment, it is mandatory.
In addition, if you have sliding doors or windows with metal parts, you must connect them to earth.
